En medio del amplio paisaje de polder de West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen se encuentra Zuidzande [Suusande]. El nombre del pueblo está compuesto por zand ‘plataforma de arena’ y zuid ‘situado al sur’. En el siglo XIII era, de hecho, una isla situada al sur de la antigua Isla de Cadzand. En la plaza del pueblo, en el corazón del pueblo, se ha establecido un restaurante en la antigua Iglesia Reformada. Esta iglesia fue desactivada del culto en 1996, convirtiéndose el pueblo en el primer pueblo sin iglesia de Zeeland.
