Midt i det vidtstrakte polderlandskab af Vest-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen ligger Zuidzande [Suusande]. Navnet på landsbyen er sammensat af sand ‘sandplade’ og syd ‘sydligt beliggende’. I det 13e århundrede var det nemlig en ø beliggende syd for den tidligere ø Cadzand. På landsbyens torv, i hjertet af landsbyen, er der indrettet en restaurant i den tidligere reformerede kirke. Denne kirke blev i 1996 afsat fra gudstjeneste, hvilket gjorde landsbyen til den første kirkeløse landsby i Zeeland.
