El 9 de mayo de 2008 se produjo un gran incendio en un astillero en la localidad Drentse de De Punt, donde murieron tres bomberos. Este incendio fue investigado exhaustivamente y provocó un cambio en la mentalidad de los bomberos en lo que respecta a la extinción de incendios en edificios industriales.
