La iglesia fue construida en estilo neorrománico y neobizantino y fue diseñada por Theo Asseler. El edificio data de 1868 y era originalmente la iglesia del monasterio de los Padres Redentoristas.
Es una iglesia de crucero de tres naves con 2 torres y una gran torre de crucero. Ambas torres tienen 37 metros de altura. La torre de crucero se añadió durante una ampliación entre 1907 y 1909.
Desde 2001, la iglesia reemplaza a la iglesia de San Juan como iglesia central de Roosendaal. Los Redentoristas dejaron la ciudad en 2003.
