Kirken er bygget i neoromanisk og neobyzantinsk stil og blev designet af Theo Asseler. Bygningen stammer fra 1868 og var oprindeligt klosterkirken for Redemptoristerne.
Det er en tre-skibede korskirke med 2 tårne og et stort kuppel. Tårnene er begge 37 meter høje. Kuppelen blev tilføjet under en udvidelse mellem 1907 og 1909.
Siden 2001 har kirken erstattet Sankt Janskirken som central kirke i Roosendaal. Redemptoristerne forlod byen i 2003.
