Die Kirche wurde im neoromanischen und neobyzantinischen Stil erbaut und von Theo Asseler entworfen. Das Gebäude stammt aus dem Jahr 1868 und war ursprünglich die Klosterkirche der Redemptoristen.
Es handelt sich um eine dreischiffige Kreuzkirche mit 2 Türmen und einem großen Vierungsturm. Die Türme sind beide 37 Meter hoch. Der Vierungsturm wurde während einer Erweiterung zwischen 1907 und 1909 hinzugefügt.
Seit 2001 ersetzt die Kirche die Sint-Janskerk als zentrales Kirchengebäude von Roosendaal. Die Redemptoristen verließen 2003 die Stadt.
