En el nombre 'Zevenbergen', las 'montañas' se refieren a pequeñas elevaciones en el paisaje, por ejemplo, dunas. Probablemente se trataba de tres de tales elevaciones. En 1964 y 1965 se investigaron dos de estas dunas, encontrándose restos de la Edad del Bronce. Zevenbergen ya aparece en documentos del siglo XIII. Primero como una escisión de la Señoría de Strijen, más tarde como un feudo separado del condado de Holanda. Zevenbergen fue hasta el 21 de diciembre de 1805 una ciudad holandesa.
