Nel nome 'Zevenbergen', i 'bergen' si riferiscono a piccole elevazioni nel paesaggio, ad esempio dossi. Probabilmente si trattava di tre di queste elevazioni. Nel 1964 e nel 1965, due di questi dossi furono studiati, durante i quali furono trovati resti dell'età del bronzo. Zevenbergen appare già in documenti del XIII secolo. Inizialmente come una suddivisione della Signoria di Strijen, successivamente come feudo separato della contea di Olanda. Zevenbergen era una città olandese fino al 21 dicembre 1805. In quella data fu stabilita una nuova separazione tra Olanda e Brabante Batavo. D'ora in poi, questa separazione andava da Willemstad attraverso il Hollands Diep e la Biesbosch fino a Heusden.
