La presa de Brielse Maasdam es la primera presa que cerró el Brielse Maas en 1950. Esta cerradura dio origen al lago Brielse Meer. La presa de Brielse Maasdam conectó las entonces islas de Voorne y Rozenburg. La decisión de construir la presa de Brielse Maasdam se tomó, por un lado, debido al aumento de la salinización, y por otro, para reducir la vulnerabilidad de Voorne y Rozenburg a las inundaciones.
