La zona natural De Kozakkenput toma su nombre de un batallón cosaco del ejército ruso que acampó aquí después de que los franceses fueron expulsados. Los rusos se comportaron de tal manera en la ciudad de Utrecht que tuvieron que salir de la ciudad. Aquí pudieron hacer uso de los 30 pozos de agua que fueron excavados en 1804 por las tropas franco-batavas. Ahora en la zona boscosa también se pueden encontrar parches de brezo y pequeños campos. También es el hábitat del búho real.
