Construido a principios de la década de 1950, Klokkenberg se expandió rápidamente hasta convertirse en el sanatorio de tuberculosis más grande y moderno de los Países Bajos. Cientos de pacientes de tbc fueron atendidos allí. Más tarde, también se establecieron otras instituciones de atención médica. Característico de De Klokkenberg es el diseño simétrico de los edificios. En el extenso complejo se pueden reconocer claras influencias de la Escuela de Delft. Las instituciones de atención médica ya han desaparecido de De Klokkenberg. Un plan posterior para transformar el edificio en un complejo de atención para ancianos ha fracasado. El complejo se está reconvirtiendo actualmente en una residencia para jóvenes y mayores.
