Built at the beginning of the 1950s, the Klokkenberg quickly expanded into the largest and most modern tuberculosis sanatorium in the Netherlands. Hundreds of tuberculosis patients were cared for there. Later, other institutions for medical care were also established. Characteristic of De Klokkenberg is the symmetrical layout of the buildings. The extensive complex clearly shows the influences of the Delft School. The care institutions have now disappeared from De Klokkenberg. A subsequent plan to turn the building into a care complex for the elderly has failed. The complex is now being converted into a residential area for young and old.
