El río Mark nace en Zandvenheide en Merksplas. La zona de pantanos de Turnhout entre Merksplas, Turnhout y Baarle está en la divisoria de aguas entre el Mosa (Dommel y Mark) y el Escalda (Nete). A través de Merksplas, Wortel y Hoogstraten, el Mark fluye hacia el norte. En su camino hacia los Países Bajos se le unen entre otros el Kleine Mark, el Hollandse Loop y el Merkske.
En los Países Bajos, el Bovenmark fluye hacia Breda donde desemboca el Aa o Weerijs. El Mark continua su camino en los singulares de esta ciudad (ver Centro Breda). En el pueblo Terheijden, el río gira hacia el oeste. Aquí también se conecta con el canal Mark y la casa de botes de la Asociación de Remo Breda.
En Standdaarbuiten, el Bovenmark se convierte en el Dintel, luego el río sale a través del Volkerak en el Hollandsch Diep.
