La Sagrada Ciudad era un edificio de la iglesia que se construyó entre 1346 y 1347 a raíz del milagro de Ámsterdam, en el lugar donde, según la tradición católica, tuvo lugar el milagro eucarístico con la santa hostia en la Kalverstraat de Ámsterdam. En 1421 y 1452, las capillas existentes se quemaron en gran parte durante los grandes incendios de la ciudad de Ámsterdam, aunque se dice que el ostensorio con la hostia fue salvado. En el mismo lugar se reconstruyó la Capilla de la Sagrada Ciudad. Cada año se celebraba una procesión del sacramento y un mercado del sacramento para conmemorar el hecho y se ofrecía una solemne misa mayor.
