El Banco de Préstamos en Haarlem es un antiguo banco de préstamos, también conocido como una casa de empeño. El edificio es un monumento nacional. La historia del edificio comienza con la construcción del monasterio de María y Lázaro en 1307 o 1308 y fue fundado por Guillermo, señor de Egmond. El monasterio estaba destinado a los lazaristas. Eran una orden religiosa militar. Combinaban, al igual que la Orden de San Juan, la lucha por la fe con el cuidado de los enfermos. Sin embargo, el monasterio fue fundado sin el conocimiento del gran maestro de los lazaristas, por lo que no fue reconocido. En 1311, Guillermo decidió transferir el monasterio y los bienes al Monasterio de San Juan.
