El Puerto de Zwaluwse es un remanente de un meandro que va desde la cuenca de Hooge Zwaluwe hasta el Amer. El agua tiene una longitud de unos cuatro kilómetros.
El Puerto de Zwaluwse se formó durante la inundación de Santa Isabel de 1421 y formaba parte de un área de meandros que mostraba similitudes con la actual Biesbosch. Así, Hooge Zwaluwe tenía un pequeño puerto que desempeñaba un papel modesto en el transporte de mercancías y la pesca.
