Originalmente, las tierras sobre las que más tarde se formaría Sandwijck eran propiedad del monasterio de Oostbroek. Tras la venta a Carel van Utenhove, señor de Rijnestein, sus herederos vendieron la tierra en 1644 a la familia Van Hattum. Aún en el siglo XVII se construyó una granja. Esta llegó finalmente a ser heredada por Adriana Voet van Winssen en 1759. Ella encargó en 1770 reemplazar la granja por una casa de campo. También se diseñó el parque en estilo paisajístico inglés. Sin embargo, este parque fue modificado significativamente en 1833 por Hendrik van Lunteren. En 1788, los herederos de Paul Engelbert Voet van Winssen y Adriana van Halm vendieron Sandwijck al tesorero de Utrecht, Johannes Sebastiaan van Namen.
