Oprindeligt var de jorder, hvor Sandwijck senere skulle opstå, ejet af klosteret Oostbroek. Efter salg til Carel van Utenhove, herre af Rijnestein, solgte hans arvinger jorden i 1644 til familien Van Hattum. Allerede i det 17. århundrede blev der bygget en gård. Denne kom til sidst gennem arv i besiddelse af Adriana Voet van Winssen i 1759. Hun gav i 1770 ordre til at erstatte gården med et landsted. Parken blev også anlagt i engelsk landskabsstil. Denne park blev dog i 1833 kraftigt ændret af Hendrik van Lunteren. I 1788 solgte arvingerne efter Paul Engelbert Voet van Winssen og Adriana van Halm Sandwijck til den utrechtiske møntmester Johannes Sebastiaan van Namen.
