La inundación de los Países Bajos en 1953 tuvo lugar en la noche del 31 de enero al 1 de febrero de 1953. Varios diques en las provincias de Zelanda y Holanda Meridional fueron incapaces de contener la combinación de una marea viva y una severa tormenta del noroeste. Grandes porciones de tierra, tanto en las islas costeras como en el continente, resultaron completamente inundadas. Murieron 1.835 personas, así como numerosas cabezas de ganado.[1] Aún hoy en día muchas personas recuerdan a las víctimas de la catástrofe cada 1 de febrero.
Independientemente del mal estado de los diques en la zona del Delta , la inundación se debió principalmente a una trágica combinación de diversas circunstancias climatológicas adversas.
