El alto faro de IJmuiden es una torre redonda, de color rojo marrón, de hierro fundido que fue diseñada por Quirinus Harder y construida entre 1877 y 1878 por D.A. Schretlen & Co de Leiden. La torre tiene una altura de 43,3 metros y junto con el bajo faro de IJmuiden forma una línea de luces que marca la desembocadura del IJ y la entrada del puerto. La torre cuenta con diez pisos y 159 escalones y era idéntica al bajo faro construido simultáneamente.
