Odoorn es un lugar en el municipio de Borger-Odoorn, en la provincia de Drenthe. Odoorn contaba el 1 de enero de 2021 con 1.890 habitantes. Según Van Berkel y Samplonius, el nombre Odoorn se deriva, a través de Oreng o Oeringe y Odering, del nombre personal Odheri. El documento más antiguo en el que aparece el nombre Odoorn es una carta sellada del 2 de julio de 1327 del monasterio Ten Nije Lichte. En una carta de 1376 encontramos nuevamente el nombre Odoorn. En ese contexto se menciona como Oderen. En un manuscrito de 1548, el nombre aparece de nuevo, específicamente en la expresión: "el párroco de Oderen". En un manuscrito de 1393 se escribe Odern, en uno de 1431 Oederen y en uno de 1546 encontramos: el borgen de Oideren.
