Waarland es una aldea en el municipio de Schagen en la provincia de Holanda Septentrional. La aldea tenía en 2021 aproximadamente 2.690 habitantes. Waarland significa tierras bajas. La historia de la aldea de Waarland está estrechamente relacionada con la lucha contra el agua. En su totalidad, consistió durante mucho tiempo en diferentes islotes y lagos que luego fueron drenados. El Slootgaard, el Bleekmeer, el Schaapskuilmeer, el Speketer, el Koetenburg y el Koog fueron todos lagos que fueron drenados. La polder de Waarland fue drenada en 1575 con la ayuda de uno de los primeros molinos de agua. El Oude Slootgaard fue drenado en 1590, estaba dentro del anillo de diques de la polder Heerhugowaard y fue incorporado más tarde a Waarland.
