Es lógico que en esta zona rica en agua hubiera muchas esclusas en el pasado. Con los barcos, las verduras eran llevadas a la subasta o se transportaban otros asuntos. Sin embargo, esto ya no es necesario, pero los numerosos canales sirven como medio de conexión entre los canales y lagunas para los aficionados a los deportes acuáticos. La esclusa de 1898 en Sluispad conecta el canal Aarkanaal a través de Keersloot con las lagunas de Langeraarse. La esclusa debe ser operada de forma manual y sigue en funcionamiento.
