Het is logisch dat er in dit waterrijke gebied vroeger veel sluisjes waren. Met boten werden de groenten naar de veiling gebracht of andere zaken getransporteerd. Inmiddels is dit niet meer nodig, maar doen de vele sloten dienst als verbindingsmiddel tussen de kanalen en plassen voor watersporters. Het sluisje uit 1898 aan het Sluispad verbindt het Aarkanaal via de Keersloot met de Langeraarse Plassen. Het sluisje moet met de hand worden bediend en is nog steeds in werking. Ook degenen die de kanoroute door Ter Aar volgen, kunnen van dit sluisje gebruik maken.
