È logico che in questa zona ricca d'acqua ci fossero molti sluice in passato. Con le barche, le verdure venivano portate al mercato o altre merci trasportate. Ora non è più necessario, ma i numerosi canali servono come mezzo di collegamento tra i canali e i laghetti per gli sportivi acquatici. Lo sluis del 1898 lungo il Sluispad collega il Aarkanaal attraverso il Keersloot con i Langeraarse Plassen. Lo sluis deve essere azionato a mano ed è ancora in funzione. Anche coloro che seguono il percorso in kayak attraverso Ter Aar possono utilizzare questo sluis.
