El Castillo de Wawel, la antigua sede de los reyes polacos que domina el río Vístula.
Una curiosidad es que el Castillo de Wawel es considerado por los hindúes como uno de los siete chakras del mundo, creado por una de las siete piedras lanzadas por el Señor Shiva.
Las personas han vivido en la Colina de Wawel desde hace unos cincuenta mil años, en la Edad Paleolítica. Durante principios del siglo XVI, el Rey Segismundo I (Krol Zygmunt I en polaco) y su esposa, trajeron a los mejores artistas nativos y extranjeros, incluyendo arquitectos y escultores italianos, y decoradores alemanes para crear el espléndido palacio renacentista.
