Barbacena era una freguesia portuguesa del concejo de Elvas, en el distrito de Portalegre, con 31,11 km² de área y 663 habitantes .[1] La densidad poblacional era de 21.3 hab/km².
Situada en la zona occidental del concelho, a unos 15 km. de Elvas, Barbacena fue vila y sede de concejo entre 1273 y principios del siglo XIX. Estaba compuesto sólo por una freguesia, que en 1801 tenía 832 habitantes.
