Braganza es una ciudad portuguesa, capital del distrito homónimo , que se sitúa en la región de Trás-os-Montes y la comunidad intermunicipal Tierras de Trás-os-Montes. Es cabeza de uno de los municipios portugueses de mayor extensión, con 1173,6 km² de superficie y 34 580 habitantes[2] y 39 freguesias. El municipio está limitado al norte y al este por España , al sureste por el municipio de Vimioso, al suroeste por Macedo de Cavaleiros y al oeste por Vinhais. Es una de las ciudades más septentrionales del Portugal continental. Los celtas dieron el nombre Brigantia a la ciudad, fundada en el siglo II a. C. Posteriormente se latinizó pasando a denominarse Bragança. El nombre celta es el origen del gentilicio más generalizado: «brigantino, -a».
