El Jardim da República es uno de los parques más emblemáticos de la ciudad, ya que junto a él se ubican varios edificios importantes: el Ayuntamiento, la fuente de O Lamego, la Iglesia de Chagas y la Casa dos Pinheiros de Aragão .
El parque tiene forma rectangular y, debido a la irregularidad entre las calles que lo bordean, existe una escalera de acceso al parque, revestida con los típicos azulejos azules y blancos. Cuenta con senderos, caminos forestales y bancos para descansar (algunos de ellos hechos de piedra y recubierto de tejas), césped salpicado de parterres, un quiosco de música y una fuente ornamental en la zona central.
En este céntrico y cuidado jardín se encuentra el busto de Fausto Guedes Teixeira , inaugurado en 1944, año de su muerte, así como un gran estanque con una estatua en el centro.
