Durante las obras en el convento e iglesia de Santa Clara, la fuente fue desmantelada y reducida a un montón de escombros .
Manuel Agonia Palmeira restauró la hermosa fuente , ligeramente elevada para lograr un ambiente más estético, con la maestría de maestros canteros. Estaba flanqueada por hermosos paneles de azulejos que representaban dos monumentos románicos emblemáticos del municipio: el Ponte d'Ave y la iglesia de Rio Mau.
