Bij werken in het klooster en de kerk van Santa Clara werd de fontein ontmanteld en herleid tot een hoop puin.
Manuel Agonia Palmeira restaureerde de prachtige fontein, enigszins verhoogd om een meer esthetische omgeving te verkrijgen, met de expertise van meester-steenhouwers. Ze werd geflankeerd door prachtige tegeltableaus waarop twee emblematische romaanse monumenten in de gemeente zijn afgebeeld: de Ponte d'Ave en de kerk van Rio Mau.
