Este mirador es un homenaje a Fernão de Magalhães (Fernando de Magallanes), el famoso explorador portugués considerado la primera persona en circunnavegar el mundo y nacido en Sabrosa.
Aunque no sobrevivió al viaje ( murió en 1521 en la isla de Mactan (ahora parte de Filipinas)), su flota completó la primera circunnavegación completa de la Tierra, un hito en la historia mundial.
