Transilvania es una región histórica del centro-noroeste de Rumania. Está rodeada por los montes Cárpatos. La capital tradicional de la región, Alba Iulia, se encuentra en la meseta del mismo nombre, mientras que Braşov y Sibiu, dos de sus principales ciudades, están al pie de los Cárpatos. Fue el lugar de asentamiento de los alemanes que serían conocidos como los sajones de Transilvania.
