Mileto fue una antigua ciudad griega de la costa occidental de Anatolia , cerca de la desembocadura del río Menderes en la antigua Caria. Sus ruinas están situadas cerca de la actualmente habitada localidad de Balat.
Antes de la invasión persa a mediados del siglo VI a. C., Mileto era considerada la más grande y rica de las ciudades griegas.[1][2]
