Samsun es una de las 81 provincias de Turquía. Se encuentra situada en la costa del mar Negro y limita al noroeste con la provincia de Sinope, al oeste con la provincia de Çorum, al sur con la provincia de Amasya, al sureste con la provincia de Tokat, y al este con la provincia de Ordu. El identificador provincial de las matrículas es 55. La capital es la ciudad de Samsun , una de las ciudades más pobladas de Turquía.
El fundador de la República Turca, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, comenzó la Guerra de Independencia Turca aquí, el 19 de mayo de 1919.
