If you have the impression that New Yorkers interrupt your conversation, there is evidence that this is a cultural thing. Deborah Tannen, who studies linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington DC found that New Yorkers inferred Californians had nothing to say because of their supposedly long pauses, while Californians felt they couldn't get a word in. Moreover, New Yorkers tended to jump in assuming the other person would stop them if they weren't finished.
