La Catedral de San Luis , también conocida como Basílica de San Luis, es la sede de la Archidiócesis de Nueva Orleans .
La primera iglesia es de los tiempos de la Luisiana francesa y se construyó en estructura de madera . La segunda se hizo en madera y ladrillo . En tiempos de la Luisiana española y después del gran incendio de 1788 que arrasó la ciudad, se construyó la tercera a la que se dio rango de catedral . La planta y las líneas principales del diseño inicial español subsisten. En 1850, la iglesia se reformó y se amplió. Entre otras obras, se instalaron tres agudos chapiteles neogóticos que sustituyeron a las cúpulas que remataban las torres.[1]
