Auburn es un gran pueblo, con el panorama de cualquier lugar típico del Viejo Oeste, sede del condado de Placer. Auburn fue establecido en 1848, situado a 33 millas al noreste de Sacramento por la Interestatal 80. Auburn se llena de recordatorios de la historia de la fiebre del oro de aquellos días en California.
Durante la Fiebre del Oro en mayo de 1848, un minero con el nombre de Claude Chana estaba tomando un atajo para hacer frente a su amigo James Marshall y descubrió oro en la Barranca de Auburn. Auburn entonces se convirtió en un principal centro de transporte y abastecimiento de cientos de campos de oro. En 1853, Auburn se convirtió en la sede del condado de Placer, un honor acorde con su estatura como un importante centro de comercio y depósito de suministros para las minas.
