El vuelo 1549 de US Airways despegó el 15 de enero de 2009 del Aeropuerto LaGuardia en Nueva York con destino el Aeropuerto Internacional de Charlotte, en Charlotte ; después iría al Aeropuerto Internacional de Seattle-Tacoma, en SeaTac.[2] El Airbus A320 amerizó en el río Hudson.[3][4] Todos los pasajeros fueron rescatados.[5][6]
Se lo ha descrito como "el milagro del Río Hudson". La tripulación del vuelo 1549 fue condecorada con la Master's Medal del Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators. La justificación de la entrega del premio rezaba "Este amerizaje y evacuación forzosos, sin pérdidas de vidas, fue un logro heroico y único en la historia de la aviación".[7] El incidente fue calificado por la NTSB como "el amerizaje más exitoso de la historia de la aeronáutica".[8]
