El río Loira es un largo río europeo de la vertiente atlántica que discurre únicamente por Francia. Con una longitud de casi 1006 km[1] es el más largo del país.[2] Su cuenca tiene una superficie de 117 000 km² y drena más de una quinta parte del territorio francés.[3] Tiene sus fuentes en varios manantiales del monte Gerbier de Jonc, en el Macizo Central, en el departamento de Ardeche y acaba desembocando en un amplio estuario en el océano Atlántico, en el departamento del Loira Atlántico, al oeste de la región occidental de Países del Loira y del Anjou.
