El Komet era un barco mercante reformado y armado para la guerra comercial en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La Kriegsmarine lo llamó Barco 45 . Bajo la denominación de Crucero de Interferencia Comercial 7 , se empleó como crucero comercial. La Armada británica lo denominó Raider B.
Con ayuda de rompehielos soviéticos, el Komet pasó en julio de 1940 por la Ruta del Norteste al Pacífico. Allí atacó la isla Nauru, productora de fosfatos. Regresó a Hamburgo el 30 de noviembre de 1941, después de 516 días de navegación. El intento de salir de nuevo fracasó el 14 de octubre de 1942, cuando frente al Cabo de la Hague, el Komet fue torpedeado por una lancha motora inglesa y se hundió con toda su tripulación .
