Nesselwängle se trouve à l'entrée de la vallée de Tannheim. La commune comprend également les localités de Rauth, Schmitte et Haller.
Nesselwängle se trouvait sur l'ancienne route du transport de sel depuis Hall en Tirol à travers la vallée de Tannheim jusqu'à la région autour du lac de Constance. Aujourd'hui, une grande partie de la population active travaille en dehors des limites de la commune. Au sein de la commune, le tourisme hivernal et estival constitue une source de revenus importante.
