Pettnau est une commune de 1082 habitants dans le district d'Innsbruck-Land en Tirol. La commune se situe dans le district judiciaire de Telfs. Pettnau se trouve dans la vallée de l'Inn, à l'ouest d'Innsbruck. Du fleuve Inn, qui coule à environ 600 mètres d'altitude, le terrain monte vers le nord, boisé, jusqu'à près de 1500 mètres. La commune couvre plus de dix kilomètres carrés. Deux tiers de celle-ci sont boisés, un cinquième est utilisé à des fins agricoles, et trois pour cent sont des cours d'eau.
