Murfeld était la municipalité la plus méridionale du district autrichien de Südoststeiermark. Au 1er janvier 2020, la municipalité a été divisée entre les municipalités de Sankt Veit am Vogau et Straß en Styrie, à l'est, dans le district de Leibnitz. La division cadastrale de Seibersdorf bei Sankt Veit a fusionné avec Sankt Veit am Vogau. Les subdivisions cadastrales de Lichendorf, Oberschwarza, Unterschwarza et Weitersfeld ont fusionné avec Straß en Styrie.
