Sautens se situe à l'entrée de la vallée d'Ötztal, sur la rive ouest de l'Ötztaler Ache. Il est relié à la route d'Ötztal par la Sautener Straße. La commune est composée de plusieurs parties de village, à savoir Haderlehn, Rammelstein, Au, Pirchhof, Unterdorf, Wegscheide, Unterrain, Vorderrain, Hinterrain, Reitle, Silbergasse, Haderlehner Straße, Ritzlerhof et Mühlgasse. La région se trouve dans un endroit ensoleillé et peu venteux, ce qui la rend adaptée à l'agriculture, et en particulier à la culture des fruits. Une partie de ces fruits est transformée localement dans des distilleries de genièvre.
