Marvin Gaye a vécu pendant un certain temps dans les années 80 à Moere. Le promoteur de concert et natif d'Ostende Freddy Cousaert a pris Gaye sous son aile alors qu'il était à Londres, ruiné, accro à la cocaïne et au sexe. Freddy Cousaert l'a sorti de la drogue et l'a remis sur le droit chemin.
Le chanteur de soul a séjourné dans cette commune de Gistel dans la maison impressionnante, la Maison Blanche. La maison est maintenant un monument classé en raison de ses vérandas spéciales. Marvin Gaye voulait acheter la maison parce qu'elle avait "de bonnes vibrations". Les morceaux Sexual Healing et Midnight Love ont été écrits ici.
Depuis la Belgique, il fait son retour avec l'album Midnight Love (1982) et ce single 'Sexual Healing'.
En 1984, il est rentré en Amérique pour reprendre sa vie en main. En avril de cette année-là, il a été tué par son propre père à Los Angeles après une dispute.
