Le saint Saint-Lieven ou Livin qui aurait vécu au 6ème siècle s'est révélé après enquête être un personnage fictif inventé au 8ème siècle. Dans l'abbaye de Saint-Bavon à Gand, le corps de Livinus a été conservé. Mais comme il n'a pas existé, ce n'était pas le corps de Saint-Lieven. Le motif de l'abbaye aurait été le profit financier, car une telle vénération d'un saint célèbre rapportait beaucoup d'argent.
