Étant donné l'emplacement favorable de Postel au carrefour de importantes routes de voyage, notamment Leuven - 's Hertogenbosch et Breda - Cologne, l'abbaye de Floreffe a probablement établi ici entre 1128 et 1138 une nouvelle fondation sous la forme d'une colonie agricole polyvalente (monastère hoeve).
