Le canal de Schipdonk, long de 55 kilomètres (également connu sous le nom de canal de déviation de la Lys), date du milieu du XIXe siècle et relie Deinze à Gand en passant par Heist. En plus de son importance économique, cette voie d'eau possède également des atouts touristiques.
