Le château Sterckshof témoigne d’une page d’histoire très ancienne. Dès le 13e siècle en effet, il y avait ici une ferme entourée d’une douve. L’édifice que vous voyez aujourd’hui a été reconstruit par la Province d’Anvers dans les années 30 du siècle dernier, mais certains éléments de style néo-renaissance datent encore du 16e siècle.
Le château abritait jusqu’en 2014 le Musée de l’Orfèvrerie, mais la collection d’argenterie figure aujourd’hui dans le nouveau musée DIVA, Antwerp Home of Diamonds (qui mérite largement une visite !). On cherche aujourd’hui une nouvelle fonction pour le Sterckshof mais en attendant, vous pouvez toujours venir boire un café et déguster une pâtisserie au Bar Stark.
Le Sterckshof doit son nom à un de ses anciens propriétaires, le marchand anversois du 16e siècle Geeraard Sterck.
